What it is, what it does

Overview

Chelation encapsulates a nutrient ion in a protective casing — keeping fertiliser plant-available, widening the pH window over which elements can be absorbed, and neutralising ionic charge so nutrients cross into the plant with far less energy. The word comes from the Greek khēlḗ, or "claw": picture a crab claw holding a marble.

The science behind it

Formulation · R&D

Synthetic chelates like EDTA and DTPA bind ferociously, but the plant has no natural pathway to break them down. Once inside, they demand energy-intensive cleaving, then circulate scavenging for new ions to bind — particularly iron — interrupting internal biology, and many are phytotoxic in their own right. eXo's natural chelators are small enough to be assimilated without a breakdown step, and every ingredient delivers its own positive physiological effect once released.
